Guild Care plans a 10,500 sq ft charity superstore and donation centre beside KFC and Lidl in Newhaven, opening in early 2027, with jobs and volunteer roles.
A Sussex care charity plans to open a charity superstore and donation centre in Newhaven early next year.
Guild Care has agreed terms on a 10,500 square foot single-storey unit on the town’s retail park, beside KFC and Lidl. The charity announced the plan on 2 October. Legal agreements for the lease are still in progress.
Guild Care is based in Worthing. It supports older people, people living with dementia, and children and adults with learning disabilities, and its shops help pay for that work.
What is planned
The charity says the Newhaven store will sell donated:
- clothing and accessories
- homeware and furniture
- electrical items
- books
It will also take donations. Guild Care says it will publish details of how and where to donate closer to opening.
KFC and Lidl both trade from The Hub, 3 Drove Road, according to the Food Standards Agency register. Guild Care names The Range, B&Q, Pets at Home, PureGym and McDonald’s as the other retailers nearby. It has not published the unit number.
The photograph Guild Care released shows the unit still carrying the sign of The Original Factory Shop. The company behind that chain, The Factory Shop Limited, is in administration, according to Companies House.
Jobs and volunteering
The charity’s Newhaven superstore page calls it “our newest and biggest retail project”. It is planning to recruit:
- a store manager
- deputy managers
- retail assistants
People can register their interest now through the same page. Guild Care says volunteer roles will range from customer service to preparing stock.
Adam Rider, Guild Care’s deputy chief executive and director of retail, said the site “works well as it’s in a busy retail park with plenty of parking right outside”.
“While there is still work to do before everything is finalised, we’re looking forward to becoming part of the Newhaven community and welcoming people through the doors as soon as we can,” he said.
